6 December 2007 at Vezukuza Primary School at 10:00 : Memorial Service for 8 killed at Mkhuze

KWAZULU-NATAL MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr Bheki Cele will tomorrow (06-12-2007) attend the memorial service of eight victims that were killed in a gruesome road crash involving a truck and a bakkie on the N2 north bound near Mkhuze  last week on Friday (28-11-2007).

The memorial service is scheduled to take place at Vezukusa Primary School at, 10am, this Thursday.

Launch of Summer Holiday Road Safety Plan on 4 December 2007 at the Mooi River Toll Plaza commencing at 08:00

KWAZULU-NATAL MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr Bheki Cele will on Tuesday (04/12/2007) at Mooi River Toll Plaza at 8.00 am unveil the Summer Holiday Road Safety Plan at the launch of the summer road safety holiday campaign.

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Bheki Cele will be part of a lucky draw for a personalised licence number at the Choice Numbers Banking Hall on Thursday (01/11/2007) at 9:00 am.

 
OCTOBER

Transport Indaba 2007 to be held on 30 October 2007 at the Stillwaters Hotel, Vryheid, commencing at 09:00

KwaZulu Natal MEC for Transport Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Bheki Cele will host the Transport Indaba on Tuesday (30/10/07) at Vryheid, Stillwaters Hotel commencing at 9:00am.   The 2007 Transport Indaba will focus on various issues that include; the report back to stakeholders on the issues raised last year, to give recognition to stakeholders in respect of their achievements, to give recognition to employees who have displayed excellence in service delivery and lastly to release the Green Paper on Transport Policy for Consultation.

Sod Turning of the Wela Vehicle Bridge on 25 October 2007 at Bhekifa High School commencing at 09:00

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Bheki Cele will officiate the sod-turning ceremony of the Wela Vehicle Bridge on Thursday (25/10/07) at Bhekifa High School at 09h00.  Construction duration of the project will be approximately nine months and the estimated cost will be R8.2 million.  The proposed bridge will be an advantage to the community and the surrounding areas.  It will particularly be useful for pupils attending the school as well as the entire community using D1708 road.

Memorial Service for 4 Learners on 24 October 2007 at Lee Primary School, Stanger commencing at 10:00

MEC for Transport Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Bheki Cele will on Wednesday (24/10/07) at Lee Primary School, Stanger, at 10am attend a memorial service of four learners and a driver of a Venture killed in a gruesome accident involving a truck and a bakkie.

Opening of Two Massive Projects in Bergville on 19 October 2007 at Ikhombe Primary School at 09:00

The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Bheki Cele will officiate the opening of the Thonyelane and Okhombe vehicle bridges in Bergville on Friday (19/10/07) at Ikhombe Primary School at 09:00.
These two projects are aimed at improving infrastructural services geared towards development for 2010 readiness and furthermore to create bridge accessibility to public services in the rural areas. Approximately R17 million was spent on these two projects which also included the reconstruction of the surrounding roads.

Opening of Nxamalala Express on 18 October 2007 at KwaNxamalala Tribal Authority in Msinga commencing at 9 am

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport Mr Bheki Cele will on Thursday (18/10/07) at KwaNxamalala Tribal Authority in Msinga at 9.am officiate the opening of Nxamalala Express.

The opening comes after the community of Nxamalala wrote to MEC Cele requesting the construction of the road. The 8 km long road will link Nkobongweni Road and D 1267 and will also serve as a link to Fabeni community and Nxamalala area and is budgeted at R4.2 million.

Sod Turning of Main Road P 73 on 16 October 2007 at Esibanini Primary School Sports Ground commencing at 10:00

MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr. Bheki Cele will tomorrow (16/10/07) at 10h00 am at Esibanini Primary School (sports ground) officiate the sod-turning of Main Road P73 in Umzumbe.

Event includes the launch of a SAPS contact point for rail commuters, train ride, testing of safety systems and a visit to the control room and college.

Purpose: to brief the media on transport activities in KZN.
School Visits by Road Safety Ambassadors on 2 October 2007 in Umlazi, KwaMashu and Chatsworth

Purpose: to engage the learners in pushing forward the message of road safety.

Operation Thatha on 2 October 2007 at Marianhill Toll Plaza at 15:00
Purpose: pedestrian safety : removal of pedestrians from freeways. The focus of this is on unsafe walking and crossing.
 
SEPTEMBER

The Department of Transport in KZN will on Friday (28/09/07) conduct the Zibambele Summit at the Ladysmith Indoor Sports Complex at 09h00 am.
Sod Turning of P127 on 1 September 2007 at Nogasela Primary School, Impendle commencing at 09:00

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Bheki CeIe will on Saturday (01 September 2007) at Nogasela Primary School, Impendle at 09h00 officiate the sod-turning of road P127. The road is approximately 14 km long and its estimated cost approximately R10 million. This road is expected to be upgraded from Impendle to Himeville.

AUGUST
Multi–million Projects Aimed At Rural Development in Mahlabathini – eMdumeni High School (Ekushumayeleni) at 9am, Sunday, 5 August 2007

In its commitment to significantly change the lives of the poorest of the poor in the rural outskirts of KwaZulu the MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr. Bheki Cele and MEC for Health Ms Peggy Nkonyeni will visit the area of Mahlabathini in the area called Ekushumayeleni to mark the commencement of the construction of a vehicle bridge and a Primary Health Care Clinic in the area.

JULY
Opening of the Malangeni Multi Purpose Centre at Malangeni Village in Umdoni (Scottburgh) commencing at 9am, Thursday 26 July 2007

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr Bheki Cele will officiate the opening of the Malangeni Multi Purpose Community Centre in Scottburgh near Umdoni. The R2 Million project consists of 80 square metre SAPS premises which are aimed at effective and efficient response by members of the SAPS in as far as safety and security is concerned. The project was constructed within a period of 9 months thus creating employment opportunities to the local communities particularly women and youth.

MEC Cele will officiate the opening of state of the art Umkomazi pedestrian bridge, Sunday 1st July 2007 - Kwavishavisha – Umkomazi at 9am

As part of the ongoing remarkable campaign to accelerate rural development by proving access to basic services, KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport Community Safety and Liaison Mr Bheki Cele will officiate the opening of Sqandulweni Pedestrian Bridge at Umkomazi in the south coast of KZN.

 
JUNE
15 June 2007:  Sod Turning of Mbalane River Bridge near Lembethe High School (Muden) commencing at 10 am.

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport Community, Safety and Liaison Mr Bheki Cele will conduct a sod turning ceremony of the Mbalane river bridge at Muden (Greytown) near Lembethe High School on Friday 15 June 2007 at 10 am; this follows a request by Grey town Rural Road Transport Forum (RRTF) who identified the bridge as one of their priorities.
 
MEC Cele to officiate the opening of Sikwebezi Pedestrian Bridge
Friday 8 June 2007 at Mdumela High School in Osuthu - Kwanongoma at 10h00. 

 

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr. Bheki Cele will conduct the official opening of Sikwebezi Pedestrian Bridge in Osuthu on Friday 8th June 2007.  This follows an outcry from school children and members of the community concerning years of suffering which has resulted to school children being washed away by floods and being victims of crocodile attacks; sick people not being able to reach hospitals and basic health services, as well as families being preventing from attending burials during the rainy season

Memorial Service for 11 R66 Road Crash Victims, Dindi in Ulundi at 10 am, Thursday 03 May 2007

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr. Bheki Cele will attend a memorial service for 11 people who were killed in two separate accidents that occurred on the R66 between Melmoth and Eshowe.
 
APRIL
Budget Speech 2007/8 at the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature, Thursday 26 April 2007, at 10 am

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr. Bheki Cele will present his budget speech for the financial year 2007/08 at the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature.

As part of the Department's commitment in championing Non-Motorized Transport. MEC Cele and Head of Department Dr K.B. Mbanjwa together with the members of the Legislature and learners will ride bicycles from corner of Peter Kerchhoff Street (Chapel) and Langalibalele Street (Longmarket) to the Legislature at 8am.

MEC Cele will host a press briefing at 13H00 and cocktail session for the members of Parliament, dignitaries and members of the media at the Sobantu Community Hall at 18h30 pm.

 
Launch of Siyazenzela Project at Ugu Agricultural Market, Port Shepstone

The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison together with the Mayor for Hibiscus Coast Municipality Ms NF Shusha will launch a pilot project on waste management. This Project will be implemented within the ambit of the Expanded Public Works Programme, focusing on the environment and culture sector. The project will be known as Siyazenzela. The launch will be held in Ugu Agricultural Market, Port Shepstone on 12 April 2007 10H00.
 
Road Safety Easter Campaign 2007 at Curries Fountain Stadium (Durban)

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr. Bheki Cele will unveil the Road Safety Easter Plan for 2007 that will be divided into two series of events. The MEC Cele will firstly interact with pedestrians in Alice Street at 9h00 and then proceed to Curries Fountain for the unveiling of the Road Safety Plan at 10h00.

Introduction of the new National Traffic Information System at Sinodale Centre, , 22 March 2007, at 10h00, Pietermaritzburg

THE KwaZulu-Natal ACTING HOD for Transport, Mr Chris Hlabisa will launch the new National Traffic Information System (eNaTIS).

The eNaTIS is expected to be launched throughout the country over the Easter weekend. Unlike the old system (NaTIS), the new system is far more advanced and it will be a web enabled with more advanced functions including: driving licences booking system, more efficient report management, on line fault logging, more streamline and effective transactions.
 
KZN Transport to host Non-Subsidised Bus Operators Graduation Ceremony

This follows an outcry from the community requesting government intervention in addressing the needs of the poverty stricken area of Umsinga in KZN Midlands.

MEC Cele to visit crime stricken contractors of P700
24 February 2007 at Enhlungwane, Ulundi at 10:00


The KwaZulu- Natal MEC for Transport Community Safety and Liaison Mr Bheki Cele will visit the Ulundi area on Saturday (24/02/07) again, following a meeting he had with contractors that are working in construction site of road P700 linking uLundi and Richards Bay.
