2 December 2008 : Summer Holiday Road Safety Plan and Long Awaited Mobile Break Tester Machine Launch at Park Rynie RTI Premises
MEC Cele will unveil the Summer Holiday Road Safety Plan on the 02/12/08 on the N2 near Park Rynie. Cele is also expected to launch a mobile break-tester machine which is one of a kind in South Africa. It is aimed at testing and detecting the road worthiness of a vehicle. This mobile unit will be used around KZN this festive season to reduce and curb all the unroadworthy vehicles on our KZN roads to reduce road fatalities. |

30 November 2008 : Launch of “IMISEBENZI IYABONAKALA – SIBUYISELA OKWABANTU KUBANTU” at the Ulundi Stadium commencing at 09:00
KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr. Bheki Cele will officiate the launch of a service delivery campaign aimed at showcasing transport infrastructure development in the province under the theme “Imisebenzi iyabonakala – Sibuyislea okwabantu kubantu” (We are taking what belongs to the people back to the people). This is aimed at showcasing all transport infrastructure projects and programmes the Department has embarked on since 2004 to date. The campaign will be rolled out in support of the department’s strategic vision of “Prosperity through mobility” and in keeping to the ideals of ‘Defending the Weak’ by ensuring wealth increase and significant improvement of the quality of life of all citizens of the Province. |

24 November 2008 : AFIRAN Special Session at the Durban International Conference Centre (ICC) commencing at 08:00
Transport Minister, Jeff Radebe together with Ministers of Transport in the African Continent and Region will converge at the Durban International Convention Centre jointly with experts to deliberate on civil aviation issues during a Special Session to be held under the auspices of the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The Ministers will be joined by highly influential authorities in the aviation industry such as the President of AFCAC, the President and Secretary-General of ICAO, the AU Commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy and cross section of influential industry players. Aviation safety and its efficiency will come under the spotlight in consideration of recent incidents and misfortunes experienced in the Republic, the region and the continent. |

Major International Youth Summit on Crime to be held in Durban-17-20 June 2008 : “Youth of the world-fighting crime locally, yet thinking globally!”
The KZN Department of Community Safety and Liaison under the leadership of MEC Bheki Cele and the UN-Habitat is pleased to announce a summit on International Youth Crime Prevention & Cities that will bring together young people from all over the world. At least 500 delegates will gather at the ICC Durban from the 17th to the 21st of June. The delegates include young people from all over the world, Heads of states, Politicians, NGO’s, CBOs and various other stakeholders.

12 April 2008 Main Road P487 at Gwizinyathi Primary School commencing at 09:00 : Sod Turning
KwaZulu Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Bheki Cele will on Saturday (12/04/08) officiate a sod-turning ceremony of the Upgrading of Main Road P487, KwaCeza, at 09HOO at Gwazinyathi Primary School. The project entails upgrading of the existing gravel road to a surfaced blacktop and will provide an all weather surfaced road to Ceza Hospital along the provincial road network. The road will provide access to the mobile clinics as well as servicing a big rural community. It will also provide a link to Vryheid via the Black Mfolozi Valley. The project is expected to be completed in March 2009 and is estimated at R35 million. |

3 April 2008 at Ashley Sports Grounds, Pinetown : Launch of Volunteer Crime Prevention Program
KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Bheki Cele will officially launch and introduce the "Volunteer Social Crime Prevention Project" (VSCPP) to the community of KwaZulu-Natal under the theme “Fighting crime together with communities”. The event will be held on 3 April 2008 at the Ashley Sports Grounds in Pinetown.
This initiative is aimed at building a popular front against crime and to bring about a safer KwaZulu-Natal for all. It is also aimed at establishing a community engagement mechanism for law enforcement agencies with the key objective of driving social crime prevention.

In a bid to spread the road safety message, The KwaZulu Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Bheki Cele will this Easter weekend visit different churches. The visits follow the string of horrible accidents that engulfed the province recently.
The church visits will take place throughout the province and the venues are as follows;

- Interfaith Easter Prayer with Ukhozi FM, Phelandaba Stadium at 12h00

26 February 2008 at Kingburgh Hospital : Visit to Accident Victims by HOD
Eight people have been killed and three sustained serious injuries in a horrific head on collision between a bus and a minibus taxi on the R612 between Breamer and Sawoti in the South Coast this morning 26/02/08. Transport Head of Department Mr Chris Hlabisa and members of the Transport portfolio committee will visit the accident scene and further visit the survivors in Kingsburgh hospital today (26/02/08). SAPS are investigating eight counts of culpable homicide.
