MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr. Willies Mchunu will attend a community mobilisation event aimed at addressing social ills, including crime as well as transport safety including road safety and peace and stability in the public transport industry.

14 November 2014 at Nzinga Bridge, Impendle commencing at 09:00 : Opening of Second Phase of P127

MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr Willies Mchunu will officiate the opening of the second phase of P127 at Impendle. He is expected to officially open the 8,1 km road, which has been upgraded from gravel to blacktop. This section of the road forms part of a 22 kilometre upgrade, which has been completed in a period of seven years at the cost of R250 million.

MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Willies Mchunu, will officiate the opening of new regional offices of Public Regulatory Entity to fast track the issuing of operating licenses as part of ensuring stability and growth of the taxi industry.

23 October 2014 at the Pinetown Driving Licence Centre Grounds commencing at 11:00 :MEC to Launch Historic First Phase of Regulating the Driving School Industry in KZN

The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Willies Mchunu, will launch the long awaited driving schools and instructors regulating framework. These regulations to be publicly unveiled by MEC Mchunu tomorrow, entails the standards for the driving instructors, the level of training, training manuals and other important ingredients towards producing a generation of new driver.

21 October 2014 at Umzimkhulu College commencing at 09:00 : MEC Mchunu to announce completed P749, P601 and promise Gungununu River Bridge in Umzimkhulu

As part of the on-going activities for October Transport month and intensifying service delivery in rural communities, MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr Willies Mchunu will officially hand over first phases of roads P749 and P601. He will also officiate the sod-turning at Ingununu River Bridge in Mzimkhulu.

18 October 2014 at Ezakhele Sports Ground, Ezakheni (E Section) : Mass Funeral for 6 Killed at Ezakheni, Ladysmith

The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Willies Mchunu, will attend the funeral of six people killed at two horrific incidents in Ezakheni, Ladysmith. He is also expected to hold another meeting on Sunday, 19 October to launch and strengthen crime fighting structures in greater Ladysmith.

07 October 2014 at Pinetown: Unveiling of M-13 Restriction Signs and Unannounced Visit to Pinetown RTI

KWAZULU-NATAL MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Willies Mchunu will launch the provincial wide ranging campaign to root out fraud and corruption in licence testing stations by making an unannounced visit to Pinetown, Durban. He will also officially unveil the Truck Restriction Boards on the M-13, Fields Hill.

03 October 2014 at Bridge City (next to PRASA office) commencing at 09:00: MEC Willies Mchunu to launch KZN October Transport Month 2014 Programme

KWAZULU-NATAL MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Willies Mchunu, will officially launch the annual October Transport Month 2014 programme on Friday (3 October 2014) at the Bridge City Mall, in the Inanda, Ntuzuma and KwaMashu precinct. The launch, which will be attended by various stakeholders, is aimed at creating awareness about all transport programmes including roads, rail, public transport, road safety and others. Among others, MEC Mchunu will use the launch to unpack the programmes, initiatives and societal engagements which are part of the new "Road Safety is Our Collective Responsibility" theme he announced during the Transport Budget Vote in August. He will also unveil the October Transport Month plans - leading to the Festive Season programme.

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Willies Mchunu will conduct an inspection as part of assessing security measures at volatile KwaDukuza taxi rank. Before conducting the inspection at the taxi rank, MEC Mchunu will meet with the leadership of local municipalities and councillors to brief them on latest developments and share with them the proposed way forward.

MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Willies Mchunu, together with Education MEC, Ms. Peggy Nkonyeni will join mourners in a memorial service to remember the five pupils who lost their lives in a horrific accident in Mooi River on Monday, 12 May 2014.

30 April 2014 at the Sports ground next to Ikhethelo Secondary school, EMondlo commencing at 09:00 : Upgrade of Eight Roads in eMondlo

MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Willies Mchunu, will, introduce the upgrade of eight access roads in eMondlo under Abaqulusi Local Municipality near Vryheid. The upgrade is part of the programme announced by Mchunu in his budget speech last year in which he indicated that the department will scale up investment in the development of road infrastructure in townships and rural communities. The MEC will be accompanied by local leadership, the Mayor, Councillors and Community members.

24 April 2014 at Umshokobezi open field (next to Umshokobezi Primary School) Pongola commencing at 09:00 MEC Willies Mchunu to Officiate Access Road Upgrade in Pongola

MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Willies Mchunu, will officiate at the road upgrade of D-1867 in Pongola. The upgrade is part of the programme announced by Mchunu in his budget speech last year in which he indicated that the department will scale up investment in the development of road infrastructure in townships and rural communities.
As part of the upgrade of the Vusumuzi access road Road D-1867, which stretches for 77 kilometres, the local community will benefit from easy access to amenities such as schools, clinics and the Pongola town.

13 April 2014 in the EThekwini region commencing at 07:30 : Launch of the 2014 Easter Road Safety Campaign

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Willies Mchunu, will officially launch the Provincial Easter Holidays campaign in a bid to drastically reduce road carnages in the province. The launch will take place at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Clermont.

MEC Mchunu will be accompanied by EThekwini Mayor, Councillor James Nxumalo, Members of Parliament, transport industry stakeholders and members of the public. The launch will be preceded by a motorcade through Clermont and a People’s March for Safety which will start at Clermont taxi rank and proceed to the stadium. The march will symbolise the need for people to start acting responsibly on the roads and will highlight the importance of community safety.

08 April 2014 at the KwaDambuza Sports ground commencing at 09h00 : Upgrade of KwaDambuza Township Access Roads

MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Willies Mchunu, will officiate at the upgrade of two access roads in KwaDambuza Township in Pietermaritzburg. As part of the upgrade of Nomponjwane and Sponono access roads, local community members will benefit from easy access to amenities such as schools, clinics and the Pietermaritzburg town.

25 March 2014 at St Cyprian Sport Ground, Eshowe commencing at 09:00 MEC Mchunu to Officiate the Construction of Main Road D883

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Willies Mchunu will officiate the official beginning of construction of main road D-883 linking the industrial town of Mandeni and the agricultural town of eShowe, tomorrow (25 March 2014). This road will also provide a strategic link and economic growth to the districts of iLembe and uThungulu. Road D-883 stretches for 23 kilometres and will help the local community reach important services such as schools, clinics, taxi ranks and shopping centres.

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Willies Mchunu, will meet families of nine people who died in last week’s head-on collision involving a truck and a bakkie in Kokstad. MEC Mchunu’s will offer condolences on behalf of the provincial government and personally assess the impact caused by this gruesome accident. He will also outline Government’s interventions to assist the bereaved families with funeral arrangements and other logistical matters as well as key programmes by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport to curb road carnages as Easter Holidays are around the corner.

20 March 2014 at eMondlo, Vryheid commencing at 09h00 : MEC Mchunu to launch scholar transport programme and open state-of-the-art Mondlo Taxi Rank

KZN MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Willies Mchunu, will launch the scholar transport programme, which provides free transportation to needy learners traveling long distances to schoolsat eMondlo, Vryheid. He will also hand over to the community of eMondlo a state of the art taxi rank, which provides much needed shelter and dignity to local commuters using public transport.

20 YEARS OF FREEDOM AND DEMOCRACY (FREEDOM FLAME TOUR) IN THE UTHUKELA DISTRICT

14 March 2014 at Dundee at 16:00 : Acceptance of the Flame by Uthukela District Political Champion

KZN MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Willies Mchunu, who is also the province’s political champion for the Uthukela District will be accepting the freedom flame in Dundee, along with the District Mayor and local mayor. The freedom flame will be transported to the Umtshezi (Estcourt) Police Station. Following from the handover of the freedom flame, a number of activities presided over by MEC Mchunu, the District Mayor and local mayors in the area surrounding the 20 Years of Freedom and Democracy celebration will proceed as follows:

The handover of RDP houses, the opening of a sidewalk and handover of 50 Jojo tanks will take place. Stakeholders will then proceed to the opening of the Eldimbi River Bridge and Gcinshowe Clinic at 13:00. This will be followed at 18:00 by a celebration of democracy in the Uthukela District at the Ladysmith Town Hall.

A stakeholders breakfast will be held at the Town Hall and at 11:30 stakeholders will proceed to Steadville for a Human Rights Celebration that focuses on vulnerable communities. KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr Willies Mchunu will hand over a multi–million rand bridge to the people of KwaDayingubo, under the UMvoti Local Municipality. This is part of government’s commitment to provide safe road infrastructure for all including people in rural communities and to support local economic development and growth. The KwaDayingubo River Vehicle Bridge will connect the community of KwaDayingubo, Bhamshela and Mhlangandlovu to important areas such as schools, clinics and pension pay out on the Dalton side.

23 February 2014 at Pomeroy, uMsinga commencing at 09:30 : Pomeroy Prayer Meeting for Elections (CSL Event)

The MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Willies Mchunu, is visiting the community of Pomeroy in Umsinga this weekend where he will host a prayer meeting seeking to solidify peace ahead of the 2014 elections. He will be accompanied by the MEC for Agriculture and Environmental Affairs, Dr. Meshack Radebe, who will look at the issue of stock-theft. The area was plunged into violence in 2013 when seven (07) members of IsiKebhe were gunned down in an event that almost triggered a faction fight in the area. Several interventions have been undertaken by the Department to stabilize the area ahead of the 2014 elections.

As part of celebrating the historic milestone of 20 years of freedom and democracy, KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Willies Mchunu, will hand over three bridges to the people of rural uMsinga, under the uMzinyathi District municipality.
