09 December 2015 commencing at 07:00 : Launch of the 2015 Festive Season Safety and Security Plan and Sod Turning in Bergville
The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government will unveil a comprehensive plan with safety and security measures aimed at curbing crime and road crashes as well as fatalities during this year’s festive season in the province. After the launch in Mooi River, MEC Mchunu will then proceed to Bergville to officiate the commencement of construction for a R9.1 million river bridge.

02 November 2015 at Greytown : Launch of November Safety Month
THE KWAZULU-NATAL government and the police have hatched a tight security plan, including tough and stringent plans to curb crime and the proliferation of illegal firearms in the province before, during and beyond the festive season. Details of the plan were announced in Greytown today by the KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Willies Mchunu and Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Mammonye Ngobeni, during the official launch of Safety Month (November) and the launch of a campaign against illegal firearms. |

MBAMBANGALO, in eMaqongqo, under uMkhambathini Local Municipality, was brought to a swift standstill today when KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Willies Mchunu, led a peaceful march and motorcade against crime with over a thousand people including community members, police, school learners, civil servants and safety structures, participating. The itinerary of the crime awareness summit included:

23-25 October 2015 in Ekurhuleni (East Rand) : KZN & Gautend host celebrations to seal peace deal at East Rand Hostels
THOUSANDS of people will gather this weekend in Gauteng to celebrate an event heralding the consolidation of peace for the people of KwaZulu-Natal who reside at eKurhuleni Hostels following a ground breaking initiative that has brought about peace among the warring residents. In a ground-breaking milestone, led by the amakhosi from KZN- backed by the KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng governments- peace and coexistence has been achieved among hostel subjects from KwaZulu-Natal, who were involved in bloody conflicts in Johannesburg hostels.

Friday, 23 October 2015: Arrival of KZN delegates and meeting between izinduna to discuss peace process (closed meeting).
Saturday, 24 October 2015: Visit by amakhosi to different affected hostels

The MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Willies Mchunu will officially launch new regional offices in Ladysmith tomorrow (Friday, 23 October 2015), to fast track the issuing of operating licences as part of stabilising the taxi industry in the province.
Together with eMnambithi Local Municipality Mayor, Cllr. Madlala, UThukela District Municipality Mayor, Cllr. Mazibuko, taxi industry members and other stakeholders, MEC Mchunu will also open an upgraded R6 million state of the art taxi rank in eZakheni. |

04-05 October 2015 in Newcastle : MEC Mchunu convenes urgent meetings to resolve Public Transport Instablility in Greater Newcastle
Following an urgent intervention by the KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Willies Mchunu on Sunday, 4 October 2015, taxi operations today returned to normal in the Greater Newcastle area. Mchunu convened an urgent meeting with five taxi associations to restore order in taxi operations in Greater Newcastle after disruptions that resulted in the suspensions of taxi operators, leaving commuters without transport since Friday – and the weekend. On 5 October 2015 Mchunu will meet with Newcastle community stakeholders as well as the leadership of the five taxi associations, the police and the security team responsible for the taxi rank to ensure there is tight security measures in the area.

MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr Willies Mchunu will announce the upgrade of four access roads at Willowfontein in Pietermaritzburg tomorrow (28 July 2015).
The upgrade of Impendle, Shange, Mkhiz’obomvu and Thandokuhle roads totaling to 3.98km will be of a blacktop standard with some steep sections of road with a concrete wearing course. The community has utilised the existing gravel road and suffered huge maintenance cost due to the rough gravel surface. |

Africa Day is an annual commemoration on May 25 of the 1963 founding of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU).
