MEC for Transport Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Mxolisi Kaunda, will officiate the opening of yet another Public Transport Licensing office in Port Shepstone. The Port Shepstone office, which administrates licensing for public transport (taxis, buses, and meter taxis) as well as tour operators, adds to an existing network of offices in Pietermaritzburg, Empangeni and Ladysmith.

MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mxolisi Kaunda met and engaged with Port Shepstone and surrounds taxi owners in Durban regarding taxi industry issues, and in advance of the opening of the new Public Regulatory Entity offices in Port Shepstone.

06 October 2016 in the Durban Region : MEC Kaunda to visit key Departmental Service Centres

MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mxolisi Kaunda will undertake an unannounced visit as part of conducting an assessment to various departmental operations. He will visit the Department's camera office in Pinetown as part of improving service delivery, and use this occasion to announce tough measures against motorists who have outstanding speed camera fines. He will also visit uMbilo vehicle licensing centre to engage with motorists on their experiences and frustrations when applying for vehicle licenses.

04 October 2016 at Emanyiseni (Jozini) commencing at 09:00 : MEC Kaunda to launch October Transport Month 2016 Programme

THE KWAZULU-NATAL MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Mxolisi Kaunda will officially launch the provincial October Transport Month 2016 programme in Jozini in the Umkhanyakude District.

Kaunda will be accompanied by various stakeholder groups, including the Mayors, South African National Taxi Council, Amakhosi, the Interfaith from different denominations, councillors as well as members of the public.

10 September 2016 at Highflats : MEC Kaunda visits Highflats Crash Victims Families

MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mxolisi Kaunda, accompanied by the Harry Gwala District Municipality Mayor, Buhlebezwe Local Municipality Mayor and Head of the Department of Transport visited the families of the seven people who died in the Highflats head-on collision between a hearse and a bakkie.

09 September 2016 : MEC Kaunda inspects Main Road R603

MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Mxolisi Kaunda embarked on an inspection of main road R603 linking uMbumbulu and Pietermaritzburg following the recent spate of fatal accidents. MEC Kaunda was accompanied by a team of highly qualified of engineers, members of the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI), South African Police Service (SAPS) and senior departmental officials.

26 August 2016 in Pietermaritzburg : MEC Kaunda addresses KZN Long Distance Taxi Operators

MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Mxolisi Kaunda, has committed the Department of Transport to step up law enforcement to curb illegal taxi operators on long-distance routes in the province. He met with representatives from SANTACO and Long Distance Taxi Association regarding the illegal blockading of public roads, the issuing of fraudulent operating licences and the proliferation of illegal firearms in the industry.

23 August 2016 in Durban : MEC Kaunda meets SANTACO Provincial Leadership

MEC for Transport Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Mxolisi Kaunda, has committed the Department of Transport that it will assist the taxi industry to grow. Speaking at a meeting with the Provincial Executive of the South African Taxi Industry (SANTACO) MEC Kaunda said that it was important for the department and the industry to address issues affecting the taxi industry peace and stability. The parties used the platform to engage on immediate priorities aimed at improving the business operations in the taxi industry, as well as peace and stability.

21 August 2016 at Inkosi Gcumisa Traditional Court: KwaSwayimane at 11:00 : MEC Kaunda to visit Family of Slain School Girl

The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mxolisi Kaunda, will visit the family of slain school girl, Bongeka Ngcobo (15 years), who was shot and killed late this week in an attack suspected to be the result of taxi violence. MEC Kaunda will visit the family to pay his respects and get the first hand information on what really happened.

02 August 2016 at Keats Sports Field, Peacetown, Ladysmith commencing at 09:00 : MEC Kaunda to hand over to Contractors for Construction of Main Road P187 & L1524

The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community and Liaison Mr. Mxolisi Kaunda will officially hand over to contractors for the construction of main P187 and L1524 at Peacetown in Ladysmith tomorrow.

The project consists of upgrading the existing 12 kilometres long gravel road P187 to blacktop, including 10 major bridges with the estimated cost of R120 million. The upgrading of road L1524 will be from the existing gravel to blacktop for 4.7 kilometres at an estimated cost of R51.9 million.

MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Mxolisi Kaunda in collaboration with Provincial Treasury opened the Nongoma Taxi Rank.

29 July 2016 at Manguzi Stadium (Umhlabuyalingana) commencing at 09:00 : Premier Willies Mchunu and MEC Mxolisi Kaunda to fight cross-border crime

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Willies Mchunu and the MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mxolisi Kaunda will visit Manguzi in Mhlabuyalinga, north of KwaZulu-Natal to intensify the fight against cross-border crime. The media is invited to cover this visit and the event. Premier Mchunu and MEC Kaunda will also launch a Borehole Water infrastructure that will help local community access and preserve water.

MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Mxolisi Kaunda, together with the MEC for Social Development, Mrs. Weziwe Thusi, handed over to contractors to upgrade main road P415 and officially opened new social development offices as part of service delivery to improve socio-economic development in Mandeni.

25 July 2016 at Richmond : MEC Kaunda assists Richmond Community to receive back Re-Integrated Murderers of Political Violence To The Community

The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mxolisi Kaunda, presided over the re-integration back to the community of the longest serving prisoners, who were responsible for murders that occurred during the political conflict in Richmond. MEC Kaunda and the Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, John Jeffreys, officiated over their re-integration back into the community; an event attended by well over 4000 people in Richmond.

24 July 2016 at Glebelands Hostel and Glebe Stadium in Durban commencing at 10:30 : KZN Cabinet host

The Government of KwaZulu-Natal - led by Premier Mr Willies Mchunu and Transport, Community Safety and Liaison MEC, Mr Mxolisi Kaunda, will host a Peace Prayer for Glebelands hostel, in Umlazi. The Peace Prayer is part of the consolidation of peace initiatives being driven by the Inter-Ministerial Task Team, appointed by the KZN Government, to initiate and drive peace processes aimed at bringing stability to Durban hostels- chiefly Gleblelands and KwaMashu. Premier Mchunu will deliver a keynote address and the Inter-Ministerial Task Team will facilitate the signing of a Peace Pledge.

The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr Mxolisi Kaunda- in partnership with the Multi-Party Political Committee will host a prayer meeting for peaceful local government elections and to consolidate peace in the area ahead of August 3 Local Government Elections.

19 July 2016 at Verdriet Sports Ground (Dannhauser) commencing at 09:00 : MEC Kaunda to officiate at Sod Turning of D280

The KZN MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr. Mxolisi Kaunda will officially hand over contractors to begin work on the multimillion road project which will be upgraded from gravel to blacktop. The upgrade of D280 will serve as a link to other communities, schools, clinic and hospitals. The construction will result in employment of many local residents from the community thereby improving their socio-economic conditions. The Department will be investing R120 million over the period of three years.

18 July 2016 at Thandokwakhe Senior Primary : MEC Kaunda celebrates Mandela Day

MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mxolisi Kaunda celebrated Mandela Day with pupils of the impoverished Thandokwakhe Senior Primary School in Vryheid, Abaqulusi where he is the MEC Champion. During his visit he assisted in painting the school and planting trees.

17 July 2016 at Glebelands Hostel : MEC Kaunda and Inter-Ministerial Task Team visit Glebelands Hostel

MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr Mxolisi Kaunda and the Inter Ministerial Task Team, appointed by the KwaZulu-Natal Cabinet visited Durban hostels- Glebelands in Umlazi and KwaMashu Hostel in KwaMashu - hosted a session on the progress made in Glebelands and later had a walk-about around the hostels. The assessment is in preparation for the visit by the cabinet and a prayer meeting schedule to take place at the hostel on Sunday, 24 July 2016.

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Mxolisi Kaunda, had decried the death of eleven (11) people in a horrific bakkie accident in Harding, on the South Coast of the province. He will, together with the leadership of Ugu District Municipality, visit the scene of the accident and meet the victim’s families.

10 July 2016 at ENseleni : Healing of the Wounds

MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mxolisi Kaunda led a prayer service in eNseleni, Richards Bay as part of remembering road accident victims. Among those present was also the uThungulu Deputy Mayor, Cllr Nonhle Mkhulisi, uMhlathuze Mayor, Cllr Mdu Mhlongo,SANTACO Chairperson Mr Boy Zondi and HoD for Transport Mr Sbusiso Gumbi. This year's prayer coincided with the first anniversary since the death of uThungulu district Deputy Mayor and ANC nusa Dladla region, Thulani Mashaba. Mashaba died last year on the N2 in Ballito.

30 June 2016 at the People’s Park, Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban : Second Provincial Taxi Indaba

The second Provincial Taxi Indaba will be led by the Premier of the KwaZulu-Natal, Mr. Willies Mchunu, and MEC Kaunda. It offers a very rare opportunity where government engages with representatives of all the taxi associations in the province and all taxi bodies under one roof. The objective of this year’s taxi indaba is to deliberate on critical issues affecting the taxi industry, including issues of regulations, moratorium on operating licences, stability in the industry and broadly the role of the taxi industry in economic growth of the province.

COMMUNITY initiatives against crime and criminality in the border area of oPhongolo will be greatly strengthened this week when the MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr Mxolisi Kaunda, launches community safety structures. This area, which is the border between KwaZulu-Natal and Swaziland, has been experiencing high levels of crime, including stock theft, vehicle theft, murders, drug trafficking and gangsterism.

14 June 2016 in Pretoria : MEC Kaunda receives new Vehicle Mobile Testing Centre

The KwaZulu Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Mxolisi Kaunda, welcomed the new Mobile Testing Centre he received from National Minister of Transport, Mrs. Dipuo Peters, at an event held yesterday at Traffic Training Centre in Pretoria.

This event also comprised of a "marching out parade" of new graduate traffic officers and was attended by MECs from various provinces to officially receive the mobile centre from the National Minister. MEC Kaunda, who was accompanied by senior RTI Officers to receive this mobile center, expressed his jubilation on receiving the centre, which will ease the burden carried by the weigh bridges and testing centres around the province.

16 May 2016 at the ABSA Stadium, outer field, Durban commending at 14:00 : New Police Deployment for Hostels

The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr Willies Mchunu, - together with the Provincial Commissioner Lt General Mammonye Ngobeni - will welcome additional new police deployment who have been sent to reinforce peace and security at Glebelands and KwaMashu hostels. The additional deployments will work with the local police who have been charged with ensuring intensive law enforcement to root out killings and other criminal elements in the two hostels.

14 April 2016 : MEC Mchunu to table Transport and Community Safety and Liaison 2016-2017 Budget Votes

The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Willies Mchunu, will table the budget policy speeches for both his departments for the financial year 2016/17.

On the Department of Transport, MEC Mchunu will outline a number of key infrastructure projects delivered to boost the economy, create jobs and connect the people in the province. Under the Department of Community Safety and Liaison, MEC Mchunu, will present a bold plan to address the escalation of illegal public protests, and plans to stabilise the province ahead of the local government elections.

Before going to the Legislature, MEC Mchunu together with stakeholders will launch a new programme of empowering women as grader drivers and operators, highlighting the need to ensure employment equity by increasing the participation of women in specialised and technical fields of work.

THE KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr Willies Mchunu, will

This horrific accident took place when two vehicles (Isuzu bakkie and Toyota Corolla) collided head-on on P459, about 500m past Lilani turn-off toward Matimatolo, resulting in the tragic death of five people. All occupants of the Toyota Corolla died instantly on the scene, while the occupants of Isuzu bakkie were transported to Greytown hospital for medical treatment.

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Willies Mchunu will join the family of the six people who died earlier this week, to bid them farewell at a mass funeral. MEC Mchunu will be joined by senior departmental officialls, local leadership, interfaith leaders, the family of the deceased and the community of Inanda.
