

Application for the Replacement of a Lost or Stolen Driver’s Licence
- This service is for qualified drivers who have lost their driver’s licence. To replace a lost or damaged driver’s licence go to your nearest
Drivers Licence Testing Centre.
- Complete form DL1 (Application for driving licence) and form
DCT (Declaration in respect of lost documents).
- Bring your identity document or passport, a copy thereof and proof of residence.
- Pay the application fee as per the current licence fees.
In KwaZulu-Natal the cost of R250.00 is applicable. You may also apply for a temporary driver’s licence so that you may legally drive whilst waiting for your new driver’s licence card. For this, you will need to pay the prescribed fee of R90 and provide one (1) black and white ID-sized photo.
- You will have to undergo an eye test. N.B. You are encouraged to bring an eye test from an optometrist that is not older than 3 months old. If it is found that your sight conditions have deteriorated from the date of the last issue, new conditions will be attached to your licence.

Yes, you can track the progress of your licence card by sending a SMS to 33214. If you receive a message stating that your licence has been produced and will be available within 21 days, you need to contact the
Drivers Licence Testing Centre where you applied for your driver’s licence card to ascertain whether it has been received back from the Card Production Facility in Pretoria, where all drivers licence cards are produced. If you receive a message stating that you need to contact the Drivers Licence Testing Centre where you applied during the process, please do so as there may be a problem with your fingerprints or accompanying documentation.
