ENSURE VISIBILITY ON ROADS CAUTIONS NDEBELE

The KwaZuluNatal Department of Transport has issued a warning to all motorists and travellers to exercise extreme caution and to ensure visibility at all times.

The KZN MEC for Transport, Mr S’bu Ndebele has warned drivers to put on their head and fog lights to guarantee that they are seen and can see others on the roads.

'Due to the rainy, misty and foggy conditions on the roads in most parts of the province, it is imperative that motorists must be able to see one another on the roads to avoid unnecessary crashes which often take a lot of innocent lives,’ said Mr. Ndebele.

Minister Ndebele said he had made an inspection of the roads along the N2, N3 and other smaller routes in the province yesterday (Saturday, 03 Aug 02) and today (Sunday), and had seen how a lot of drivers think that because they see the road they don’t need to be seen by others.

‘This practice is quite dangerous, please ensure that you can see and be seen at all times in these kind of weather conditions,’ he said.

Motorists can also phone the provincial Road Traffic Inspectorate’s (RTI) toll free number 0800 33 99 11 to find out weather and road conditions in the province.

The weather bureau predicts more rain overnight clearing in the cause of the day tomorrow (Mon, 05 Aug 02).
