WEBSITE TO EMPOWER ROAD USERS DURING THE FESTIVE SEASON
Visitors to KwaZulu-Natal will be able to better plan their
trips this festive season thanks to the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport’s
official website that was launched yesterday.
Information that will be of benefit to motorists include
hazardous locations, road construction sites, traffic updates, accident reports,
weather reports and other relevant information to enable road users to ensure
that they arrive safely and timeously at their destinations.
Head of the KZN Transport Department, Dr Kwazi Mbanjwa said
that one of the aims of the website is to ensure that people are at the same
level of understanding as to what is happening in our Department.
"This will empower the public we serve with knowledge of
all services we provide. Most importantly they will know the various
departmental programmes that may be of assistance to them. It is our fervent
hope that people will use this website for their benefit," said Mbanjwa.
The website address is www.kzntransport.gov.za
Meanwhile, the official reporting period for the reporting of
road crashes for this festive season commenced on 1st December and
will end on 14th January 2003. One hundred and forty nine (149)
people were killed on our roads during the festive period last year and traffic
officials are already out in full force to try and reduce the deaths on our
roads.
Late yesterday afternoon over 3 000 vehicles per hour were
reported to be heading south past the Tugela Toll Plaza near Ladysmith.
