SIX PEOPLE KILLED IN CRASH NEAR HARDING

Five schoolchildren and the driver of the mini-bus taxi in which they were travelling were killed in a motor vehicle crash on the N2 between Harding and Nqabeni in the early hours of this morning.

According to emergency services personnel on scene, the driver of the mini-bus taxi failed to stop at the intersection of the D812 and the N2 near the Manor Milk Farm at Nqabeni and collided into a heavy motor vehicle that was travelling on the N2 towards Harding.

Six people including the driver of the mini-bus were killed instantly. 15 other passengers from the taxi sustained slight to moderate injuries and were taken to the Murchison and Harding Hospitals. Emergency Services personnel are still busy on scene trying to rescue an entrapped victim from the truck.

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Mr S'bu Ndebele has reacted with shock at the new of this horror crash and has ordered a full investigation into this matter. Mr Ndebele has also extended his condolences to the families of those who were killed and wishes those injured a speedy recovery.


N.B. We are still verifying the correct number of injured persons, as there are currently conflicting reports in this regard.
