HIV/AIDS and road crashes are killers of many people in our Province.
The KZN MEC for Transport, Mr S’bu Ndebele and the MEC for Health, Dr
Zweli Mkhize will host events on Sunday, 19th May 2002 in an effort to
curb the number of deaths as a result of road crashes and HIV/ AIDS.
Transport related deaths are to blame for a great misery of our people in
that besides the loss of life, we also lose almost R2 billion on these
incidents every year. To this end, the Department of Transport in
partnership with Metrorail will host a prayer meeting to be held at the
Kingsmead Cricket Stadium commencing at 09h00.
On the other hand, the Department of Health has also arranged a
Candle-Light Memorial event to be held at the Jozini Stadium (Umkhanyakude
District) commencing at 10h00. This event is celebrated worldwide on the
19th of May to remember those who died of AIDS and to show support for
those living with the illness.
Free transport has been arranged to transport members of the public
from the surrounding areas of Jozini. Free rail and bus transport has been
also arranged for the Kingsmead Stadium Event.
Through these events, the ministers show the commitment, of both, their
ministries and departments in saving the lives of our people from the two
scourges.
