TAXI ENFORCEMENT CONFERENCE
KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Mr S’bu Ndebele will deliver the
keynote address at the Taxi Enforcement Conference being hosted by the
Judicial Taxi Commission of Inquiry at the Inchanga Hotel and Conference
Centre, Inchanga on 21st and 22nd April 2002 commencing at 09H30.
Both
Minister Ndebele and Judge Alexander will address the open session of the
conference and will highlight the work undertaken by the Commission thus
far.
The aim of the Conference is to address, amongst others, the following
issues relating to enforcement in respect of the taxi industry:
- Proposals for a specialised taxi enforcement unit.
- An assessment of the prosecuting process in the Lower and Higher
Courts.
- The need for a co-ordinating taxi investigative unit.
- The regulation of taxi ranks and relevant aspects of conflict.
Speakers at the Conference include the Director of Public Prosecutions
- Advocate S. Batohi, the Provincial Commissioner of Police - Commissioner
Khanyile as well as many other senior officials from the enforcement
fraternity in KwaZulu-Natal.
All media are also invited to attend a press briefing, which will be
held at the same venue on Monday, 22nd April 2002 commencing at 13h30.
