TWO MORE BODIES FOUND IN THE AMATIGULU DISASTER
Two more bodies of the victims of Friday’s floods at the Mananda
Bridge in Northern KwaZulu-Natal have been found – increasing the number
of bodies found to five. The bodies were found in the Amatigulu
River. The search for the other two bodies of the Catherine Booth
staff members continues. The Department of Transport has dispatched a
helicopter to assist the search effort.
The community, Police, Department of Health officials and local
councillors have been hard at work as from seven this morning (Monday)
searching for the bodies.
The incident happened on Friday afternoon on the D135 Amatigulu Road
from the Sugar Mill to the Catherine Booth Hospital on the North Coast of
KwaZulu-Natal due to heavy rains that have fallen along the coastal
regions of the province.
According to Police the driver of the Toyota Hilux bakkie
underestimated the water flow and continued to cross over the river at a
small bridge that was flooded.
