NDEBELE CONDEMNS THE UMTHAMVUMA BRIDGE BLASTS
THE MEC for Transport In KwaZulu-Natal S'bu Ndebele has condemned in
the strongest possible terms the bombing of the Umthamvuna River Bridge in
the Southern part of KZN in this morning.
'The bridge was destroyed by forces who are thoroughly frustrated by
the successes we have achieved in nation building reconciliation and
democratic transformation,' says MEC Ndebele.
As a country we need to be more vigilant against this and other crimes
that continue to spoil the fruit of the sweat of our brows. Development is
the key to a stable society and these people are seriously setting us back
as a country.
The N2 between Port Shepstone and the Wild Coast has been closed to
traffic. Motorists travelling to the Eastern Cape will be diverted onto
the N2 via Harding and Kokstad. The Umthamvuna Bridge will be closed to
traffic indefinitely until it is safe to use again.
'The provincial government will do everything possible to ensure
tourists and locals are safe in KZN,' says Mr Ndebele.
