P4 RADIO AND KZN DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORT PARTNERSHIP
P4 Radio and the Department of Transport in KwaZulu-Natal have formed a
Partnership resulting in a primary school road safety road show that will
see the road safety message spread to hundreds of school pupils throughout
the province from today until 19 September 2002.
The start of these Road Shows was officially launched at Inselele
Primary School in Umlazi this morning.
The aim of the road show is to create an awareness of basic road safety
rules among children, particularly primary school children, thus
establishing a knock-on effect and educating parents in turn. During June
2002, P4 Radio ran a promotional slot advertising the programme and
inviting schools to send their details to be able to participate in the
project and also to stand in line to win various prizes with the main
prize being R15 000 sponsored by CNA.
The road show will go to 27 schools in the province; 18 of these
schools fall within the Durban Metropolitan area while the other nine
schools are in the areas of Pietermariztburg, Harding, Eshowe and Stanger.
These schools were selected due to the high number of road crashes in
these respective areas.
The road shows will be conducted by staff members from the Transport
Department and P4 Radio and entails visiting two schools per day (2hrs per
school), twice weekly. The presentation is designed to be fun and
captivating so that children will remember and participate in the
programme. The presentation will follow the format of a Pick-a-Box show
with children being required to answer a simple question on road safety
and stand to win prizes ranging from pencils, rulers, t-shirts and road
safety puzzles.
