DEVELOPMENT INVADES OBUKA
KwaZulu- Natal MEC for Transport, Mr S'bu Ndebele will perform the
sod-turning ceremony for Main Road 253 and Imfule Bridge at Obuka near
Empangeni tomorrow (Tuesday), 2 December 2003 at 10h00.
This road infrastructure project will play a pivotal role to both our
African Renaissance Roads Upgrading Programme (ARRUP) and our Tale of four
Cities Programme in contributing towards reversing the spatial
inequalities that we have inherited from apartheid governments. This
project also highlights the KZN Transport Department's commitment to
putting an end to physical and economic isolation and will develop
important transport corridors for the surrounding areas of Obuka,
Entembeni and Yanguye thereby enabling these communities to lead a better
life.
Since 2001, as part of the KZN Transport Department's Rural Development
Programme, road infrastructure projects totalling more than R10 million
have been put in place in this area. This has resulted in much needed
development for this community which has contributed significantly to
reducing the levels of poverty and creating many other opportunities to
improve their living standards.
All media are invited to attend. Please note picture opportunities.
