LAUNCH OF THE FIRST SOUTH AFRICAN INSTALLATION OF INTELLIGENT ROAD
STUDS
KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Mr S'bu Ndebele will officially launch
the installation of the first South African Intelligent Road Studs on
Tuesday, 13 May 2003 at 18h00 at Mthonjaneni, Melmoth.
These road studs extends driver night time visibility by up to ten
times compared with conventional road studs. Some of the benefits when
compared to the conventional "cats eyes" include:
- Significant increased visibility.
- Improved delineation of road architecture.
- Increased awareness and alertness to hazards.
- Increased reaction time to avoid last second vehicle manoeuvres.
- Less use of brakes and headlight main beam.
- Better lateral vehicle positioning on approach to bends.
