MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR 11 PEOPLE KILLED NEAR LADYSMITH

A memorial service for the eleven (11) people who were killed in a road crash on Friday, 4 July 2003 near Ladysmith will be held this Thursday, 10 July 2003 at 10h00 at the Cornfield Hall in Umtshezi near Estcourt.

Hundreds of people including KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Mr S'bu Ndebele, Members of Parliament, Mayors from surrounding towns, Councillors and community members will attend.

The crash occurred last Friday evening along the N11 near Ladysmith when a truck collided head-on with four other vehicles. Eleven people were killed and twelve others were admitted to the Ladysmith Provincial Hospital with various injuries. Members of the Transport Portfolio Committee together with senior officials from the KZN Transport Department visited the scene of the collision as well as the injured at hospital yesterday.

Twenty four (24) people lost their lives in road crashes on KwaZulu-Natal roads since Friday (04/07/03) up to midday on Sunday (06/07/03).
