PRISONERS ABLE TO CONVERT THEIR DRIVING LICENCES
As part of it's commitment to service delivery and good governance,
officials from the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport made a special
trip to the Pietermaritzburg and Serfontein prisons to enable prisoners to
convert their driving licences to the new credit card type format.
We have gone to great lengths to ensure that as many drivers as
possible will be able to convert their licences before the February 28
deadline.
As we draw towards the conclusion of this programme ending on 28
February 2003 all registering authorities in this province have been
requested to extend their office hours for the handling of cash
transactions and even further for the delivery and collection of credit
card driving licences. The RTI offices are now also open on Saturdays and
this will extend throughout February as an additional service to the
public in order to accommodate those who have waited until the last minute
to complete the conversion process.
According to the Government Gazette of 23 January 2003, the CCF licence
will be the only driving licence acceptable after February 2003. After
that anyone without it will be regarded as an unlicensed driver.
