Please take note of the following events being hosted by the KZN
Department of Transport:
- Monday, 25 August 2003: Official launch of the Zibambele
Training Programme commencing at 10h00 at the DLI Hall, Greyville,
Durban.
As part of the department's Women's Day Celebrations, KwaZulu-Natal
MEC for Transport, Mr S'bu Ndebele will officially launch the Zibambele
Training Programme for the Zibambele Road Maintenance Programme. The
Zibambele Road Maintenance Programme is a nationally acclaimed poverty
alleviation programme which benefits more than 14 000, mostly
women-headed households in KZN.
Also to be launched is the Zibambele musical CD by well-known artists
Makitaza and Vusi Ximba. The CD is another mechanism for communicating
the Zibambele Programme and other transport messages to the public.
Thousands of people including Members of Parliament, Mayors,
Councillors, Amakhosi, Zibambele Contractors and other stakeholders are
expected to attend.
- Thursday, 28 August 2003: Annual Departmental Cultural Day
commencing at 10h00 at the University of Durban-Westville, Durban.
This initiative forms part of the department's programme to solidify
unity amongst its staff by celebrating and appreciating the cultural
diversity within the organisation. This is an event for all staff
members within the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport.
The objectives of the Cultural Day include creating an opportunity to
discover, understand and learn from each other's different lifestyles as
well as creating mutual understanding and promoting a culture of
tolerance for each other's differences.
- 4 September 2003: Provincial Driver of the Year Competition
commencing at 07h30 at the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI), Umdhloti.
The aim of this competition is to encourage heavy motor vehicle
drivers to accept greater responsibility for road safety, to improve
their standard of driving and to create positive spin-offs for the
companies who trust their drivers with these valuable assets. It is also
to reward companies that have allowed their drivers to participate in
the road safety programmes of the Transport Department. Winners of the
provincial leg will be entered into the national competition which will
be held in KZN during the end of October.
