A memorial service for the fourteen (14) people who
were killed in a road crash on Tuesday, 22 April 2003 near Melmoth will be
held on Wednesday, 30 April 2003 at 10h00 at the Melmoth Town Hall.
Hundreds of people including KwaZulu-Natal MEC for
Transport, Mr S’bu Ndebele, Members of Parliament, Mayors from
surrounding towns, Councillors and community members will attend.
The fourteen (14) farm workers were killed instantly in
a crash involving a truck, at approximately 15h45 on Tuesday (2003-04-22)
along the R68, forty kilometres from Melmoth towards Babanango.
It is alleged that the driver of the truck in which
approximately sixty (60) farm workers were being conveyed, lost control
due to speed and overturned. Fourteen (14) workers, twelve (12) males and
two (2) females, were killed instantly.
