Please take note of the following events:
- 28 October 2003 at 10h00: Inter-Faith Road Safety Programme at 10h00 at
the Settlers Park Grounds, Ladysmith.
KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Mr S'bu Ndebele will deliver the keynote
address. This initiative forms part of the KZN Transport Department's mass
mobilisation plan to spread the gospel of road safety in order to reduce the
number of road deaths on the province's roads. This programme is derived from
past road safety campaigns such as Siyabakhumbula ("We Remember Them") which was
held during 1997 and proved highly effective. As part of the Inter-faith Road
Safety Programme, the Department in conjunction with religious leaders from
various faiths will be ensuring that the road safety message goes right down to
grassroots level. Part of the programme will also include prayer meetings at
high-accident frequency locations. Details for other areas are as follows:
- Tuesday, 04 November 2003 at 10h00 at University of Zululand,
Empangeni.
- 30 October 2003 at 10h00: National Driver of the Year Competition,
Kingspark Outer Grounds, Durban.
Finalists from the provincial legs of the competition and transport officials
from the various provinces in South Africa will be in Durban during this period
to participate in this national competition. The aim of this competition is to
encourage heavy motor vehicle drivers to accept greater responsibility for road
safety, to improve their standard of driving and to create positive spin-offs
for the companies who trust their drivers with these valuable assets.
All media invited to attend. Please note picture opportunities.
