NEWS RELEASE

CONTRA-FLOW TRAFFIC ON N3 AT TOWNHILL

The South African National Roads Agency Ltd (SANRAL) appeals to road users making use of the section of National Road 3 (N3) between Hilton and Athlone to exercise patience whilst roads repairs are being undertaken.

SANRAL has awarded the consortium of Basil Read (Pty) Ltd and Milling Techniks (Pty) Ltd, the contract to undertake the necessary construction works, which will result in contra-flow arrangements (shown below) on the affected section between 1st April and October 2003. Light southbound traffic will be required to travel in contra-flow on the northbound carriageway. Opposing vehicles will be separated by concrete barriers for approximately 5km between the Hilton and Athlone interchanges. Heavy vehicles will continue to use the southbound carriageway, but no abnormal loads with a width exceeding 4m will be permitted.

For more information on the road works, please contact the Resident Engineer:

The improvements to this section of the N3 will ultimately benefit road users and is an intervention by SANRAL to preserve South Africa’s national assets.

SANRAL will strive to ensure the minimum of delays and inconvenience to road users.
