MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Bheki Cele will be
attending a Road Safety Prayer Meeting which is aimed at pushing forward
the message of Road Safety and fighting crime in the communities around
Umlazi. This follows a concern from the community members on an
accelerating crime rate and road accidents which results to fatalities in
the area.
Road safety is everybody's responsibility and together we can save
lives and fight crime. This is the first road safety prayer gathering in
2005 and it comes prior to the hectic Easter weekend in few weeks time.

MEC Bheki Cele will be officially launching the Province's Disarmament
Campaign which is aimed at social mobilization against illegal weapons and
violence. The amnesty period began on the 1st of January 2005 and will end
on the 31 March 2005. This period allows people to hand in illegal
firearms and ammunition without fear of prosecution.
The MEC will give an update of the illegal firearms and ammunition that
have been handed to the police to date. He is also expected to address
policemen in the area about the Commission of Inquiry into police
inefficiency and ineffectiveness and service delivery in the
province.
