MEC BHEKI CELE' S ETHEKWINI TRANSPORT ROADSHOW

Saturday 04 August 2005 at 10 AM, Curries Fontain (DBN)

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr. Bheki Cele will host the Ethekwini Transport Road show on Saturday 6 August 2005 at 10 am at the Curries Fountain Stadium in Durban. This follows MEC Cele's promise he declared at the Annual Transport Summit in Ulundi in May this year about the importance of hosting a community gathering where all transport programmes will be addressed to touch base with people at a grassroot level.

At the Summit in Ulundi Cele made a statement of commitment and said "I will ensure that all resolutions taken from this summit receives an urgent response from my department; in addition matters around public safety in different modes of transport will be tackled at a public meeting in a period not less than three months".

In this forum MEC Cele will address issues ranging from safety of passengers and commuters in the different modes of public transport in general but particularly the taxi industry, service delivery issues mainly on infrastructural development, job opportunities available in the freight industry and many other transport matters in the province. This Road show is aimed at giving communities an opportunity to access all transport programmes and projects thus promoting public participation in government matters.

The Ethekwini Transport Road Show will be attended by members of the provincial transport portfolio committee, Members of parliament, Amakhosi, dignitaries from Ethekwini Municipality and all transport stakeholders among others Taxi Associations, Rural Road Transport Forums, Community Road Safety Councils, Zibambele and Vukuzakhe Associations.
