FIVE PEOPLE KILLED IN A HORROR CRASH
Five people have been killed in a horror head on collision between a
truck and a bakkie at Umlalazi Bridge on the R66 road between Eshowe and
Melmoth at midday today (Saturday). The accident occurred when the driver
of the bakkie lost control of the vehicle and went out of his lane and
collided onto an oncoming truck. Upon impact a truck belonging to
Mineral Carriers overturned.
Five people including a driver of a bakkie were killed instantly and
six people including a pedestrian were injured and rushed to Eshowe
hospital and are reported to be in a stable but critical condition.
A bakkie had approximately 10 passengers on board traveling from
Babanango to Eshowe.
KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison
Mr. Bheki Cele is extremely devastated and heart-broken, and he conveys
his condolences to the members of the bereaved families.
Cele said "we will ensure that all aspects pertaining to this collision
are thoroughly investigated.
Five counts of culpable homicide are being investigated by the SAPS.
