CONFLICT BETWEEN ZAMOKUHLE AND SONGOBA TAXI ASSOCIATIONS RESOLVED
Zamokuhle and Sonqoba Taxi associations that operate
between Durban and Port Shepstone held a meeting today to resolve their
differences. This follows gun fights between these two associations that
took place in the taxi rank at Brook Street, leaving four people injured.
Both associations agreed to maintain status quo until a
court case that is scheduled for the 2nd of June 2005. This
means that Zamokuhle Taxi Association will take passengers from Port
Shepstone to Durban and Sonqoba will take them from Durban to Port
Shepstone.
MEC Bheki Cele said "We are very happy that the
issue has been resolved because our main goal as the Department of
Transport is to provide safe and affordable public transport".
