NUMBER OF PEOPLE KILLED TAXI CRASH INCREASES

The death toll of people killed in a taxi crash has increased from five to eight.

The accident occurred when a bakkie attempted to make a U-turn on the clear solid barrier line on the N2, and subsequently side-swiped a Minibus Taxi, which then collided with an oncoming truck. Four passengers from the minibus and one passenger from the truck were killed instantly. Two died today in a hospital.

MEC Cele is extremely heart broken and devastated, and conveys his condolences to the members of the bereaved families. Cele said "we will ensure that all aspects pertaining to this collision are thoroughly investigated so that the charges that the bakkie driver faces will receive the appropriate sentence if found guilty." Cele will be visiting survivors and families today at 2pm.
