MEC BHEKI CELE TO VISIT RELATIVES OF THE DECEASED AND SURVIVORS OF A HORROR TAXI CRASH

KwaZulu Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr. Bheki Cele will be visiting the survivors of the Taxi Crash which killed five people on the N2 near Nseleni yesterday afternoon. Twelve others have been hospitalized and are in a critical but stable condition in hospital.

The accident occurred when a bakkie attempted to make a U-turn on the clear solid barrier line on the N2, and subsequently side swiped to a Minibus Taxi which then collided to an oncoming truck. Four passengers from a minibus and one passenger from a truck were killed instantly.

MEC Cele is extremely heart broken and devastated, he conveys his condolences to the members of the bereaved families. Cele said "we will ensure that all aspects pertaining to this collision are thoroughly investigated so that the charges that the bakkie driver faces will receive the appropriate sentence if found guilty."

The SAPS are investigating five counts of culpable homicide, reckless and negligent driving and attempting to cross a solid barrier line against the driver of the bakkie.
