MEC CELE CONDEMNS THE KILLING OF A COUPLE AT ESKHAWINI
KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr.
Bheki Cele has condemned the brutal killing of a married couple, which
apparently took place on Saturday (15 October 2005) at Esikhawini near
Empangeni.
The motive of the killing is unknown at this stage however police
investigations are still continuing. Strong allegations are pointing to
taxi violence as a possible motive but no arrests have been made so far.
“Members of the serious and violent crime unit are spending sleepless
nights reconstructing the murder case, and we urge the community to
assist police investigation where possible. Police are investigating all
possible leads, be it taxi violence or any other to ensure that justice
prevails,” Cele said.
Cele sends his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family for the
brutal killing of husband and wife. “Police Officials are there to
protect communities in any given situation. We are a democratic
government, but nobody is above the law. Brutal killings should be
condemned and agents of the state will continue defending the weak,”
said Cele.
