"CELE ON A CAMPAIGN TO DISARM UMLAZI"
KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr. Bheki
Cele will be visiting Umlazi on the 22nd of March 2005, at King Zwelithini
Stadium,09h30 on an ongoing Disarmament Campaign.
The campaign began in Ladysmith and was very successful, it went on to
Harding and Ulundi and now it is coming to Durban. The campaign is aimed
at social mobilization against illegal weapons and violence. The amnesty
period began on the 1st of January 2005 and will end on the 31
March 2005. This period allows people to hand in their illegal firearms
and ammunition without fear of prosecution.
The Minister will give an update of the illegal firearms and ammunition
that have been handed to the police to date, in the whole country.
Cele is expected to address the police in the area about the Commission
of Inquiry into police Inefficiency and Ineffectiveness and service
delivery in the province.
The event will be blessed by local artists such as Ishmael, Deborah
Fraiser, Spykos delicious, and Bravo.
