SIX PEOPLE KILLED ON KZN ROADS TODAY
Six people have been killed, and several others sustained various
injuries in two separate accidents on KwaZulu-Natal roads today. This
follows bad weather conditions and excessive rainfalls in parts of the
province. Three people were killed this morning when a bus collided with a
horse and trailer in Richards Bay while three others were killed in an
accident involving a car and a bakkie in Cedarville this afternoon.
According to preliminary reports the cause of the accident in Richards
Bay was driver negligence as the driver was trying to overtake. Meanwhile,
in the other accident the driver lost control of the vehicle when
approaching a curve due to slippery roads. Dockets of culpable homicide
are being investigated by the SAPS and police investigations are still
underway.
KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr. Bheki
Cele warned motorists to drive more carefully on our roads during the
rainy season and to maintain a safe following distance. "It is of
vital importance that windscreen wipers function well, motorists drive
with their head lights on to create better visibility, and de-misters are
used optimally, as this will contribute to safer driving on the
roads," Cele said.
