KZN TRANSPORT MEC HOLDS TAXI INDABA FOR ALL TAXI ASSOCIATIONS IN
KWAZULU-NATAL
KwaZulu-Natal Transport, Community Safety and Liaison MEC Bheki Cele
has invited all taxi associations in the province to attend an Indaba to
deal with problems affecting the industry in KwaZulu-Natal.
The Indaba will be held at 9 am Friday, 24 June at the Durban Drive-In,
Brickhill Road, North Beach.
Cele said he expects all the leaders of the 253 taxi associations and
all other stakeholders involved in the public transport sector to attend
this crucial Indaba.
The Indaba follows disturbances in the taxi industry in KwaZulu-Natal
on Monday and Tuesday due to a so called strike by the KwaZulu-Natal Taxi
Alliance.
"We have said that as a department we are committed to ongoing and
open discussions with the taxi industry which provides transportation to
more than 65% of the people of this province. It is crucial that we
continuously sit down and together identify problems and resolve them
amicably," he said.
The Indaba will be attended by all leaders of taxi associations in the
province and all other organizations involved in the taxi operations.
