MINISTER NGQAKULA AND MEC CELE RESPONDS TO A CALL FROM
COMMUNITY OVER CONCERNS OF RIDICULOUSLY HIGH CAR-HIJACKING RATE AND OTHER
SAFETY MATTERS AT KWANGWANASE
Sunday 30 October 2005, KwaMahlungulu Border Gate
Safety and Security Minister Mr. Charles Ngqakula and his
provincial counterpart MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr.
Bheki Cele will address the community of KwaNgwanase on community
safety and policing matters in the area on Sunday 30 October 2005,
KwaMahlungulu Border Gate at 9h30 am.
This follows an outcry from the community over ridiculously high rate
of car-hijackings in the area and allegations of cars being transported
beyond the borders of South Africa through KwaMahlungulu Border Gate which
is situated near Mozambique.
The community of KwaNgwanase handed over a memorandum to the Department
of Community Safety and Liaison complaining mainly about safety matters in
the area particularly the accelerating rate of car-hijackings. Statistics
on car-hijackings and stolen vehicles have shown an increase and reports
have revealed that at least four vehicles are stolen/ hijacked in one
weekend alone and in most cases drivers are injured or murdered.
