MEC CELE CONDEMNS THE SHOOTING OF KWADUKUZA MUNICIPAL MANAGER
KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr. Bheki
Cele had expressed shock and condemns the shooting of KwaDukuza
Municipal manager Mr.Nyathi Mthembu. Preliminary reports have revealed
that the Municipal manager was shot in one of the restaurants in Stanger
at lunchtime today 27/10/05.
The motive of the shooting is known at this stage however members of the
serious and violent crime unit are investigating the matter. “I serve
upon the mandate of ensuring safety in the province therefore I strongly
condemn the shooting of the Municipal Manger. I again encourage members
of the community who have information that could assist with the
investigation to volunteer the information to the police” Cele said.
“The current status quo in Stanger should not scare anyone as police
management are implementing all safety measures to ensure maximum safety
in Stanger, Maphumulo and surroundings. Police investigation will target
every possible lead and taxi violence will not be ruled out” Cele added.
Mthembu is reported to be in a critical but stable condition in
hospital.
