MEC BHEKI CELE TO DESTROY ILLEGAL FIREARMS
Friday, 1 April 2005 at 9h00-Prospecton Gun Destruction site
KwaZulu- Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr.
Bheki Cele
will be embarking on a process of destroying all firearms and ammunition
handed in during the amnesty period which started on the 1st of
January 2005 until the deadline of 31 March 2005 (Today). The destruction
of firearms and ammunition will be done tomorrow on Friday the 1st
of April 2005 at the gun destruction site in Prospecton near Isipingo
South of Durban.
The end of March 2005 marks the end of the amnesty period of handing in
illegal firearms and ammunition without fear of prosecution. A month ago
MEC Cele embarked on a Disarmament Road show which was aimed at social
mobilization against the illegal use of firearms. Cele is expected to give
the latest statistics of all firearms and ammunition collected during the
amnesty period at a media briefing which will be held at the gun
destruction site in Prospecton.

MEC BHEKI CELE TO ATTEND MEMORIAL SERVICE OF TEN PEOPLE KILLED DURING
A HORROR BUS CRASH OVER THE EASTER WEEKEND
Friday 1 April at 10h00 am, Waterloo Hall in Verulam
MEC Bheki Cele will be attending a memorial service of ten people
killed on a horror bus crash at KwaHlabisa on Friday night. Institute of Road
Transport engineers accompanied by accident
reconstruction personnel from RTI inspected both buses and the scene of
the collision. According to the report findings mechanical faults were not
the cause of the collision.
