MEC CELE TO HOST MEMORIAL FOR 8 PEOPLE KILLED IN A HORROR CRASH
Friday 3 February 2006, Chesterville Community Hall at 10am
KwaZulu- Natal MEC for Transport, Community and Liaison Mr. Bheki Cele
will attend a memorial service for the 8 people killed in a horror crash
on Tuesday morning in Durban’s Warwick Avenue.
Initial reports have revealed that a truck lost control and knocked a
number of vehicles including two taxis and pedestrians. Eight people
including a 6 month old baby died instantly whilst 50 sustained injuries
and were rushed to nearby hospitals in Durban.
The memorial service will be attended by the Transport Portfolio
Committee, leadership from the Taxi industry and the community of
Chesterville. Cele is expected to give details of the report on the
technical investigation that was conducted to assess the roadworthiness
of the truck.
