MEMORIAL SERVICE OF ELEVEN PEOPLE KILLED AT ISIPINGO MAIN ROAD
KWAZULU-NATAL MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr
Bheki Cele will attend the memorial service of eleven victims tomorrow
(08-06-2006) who were killed in a gruesome road crash involving a truck
and a minibus taxi last week on Thursday (01-06-2006).
The memorial service will be held at Folweni, Zenzele School at Nsimbini
Area, 10am, this Thursday.
The crash took place on the intersection of M35 and Old Main Road at
Isipingo. The driver of the truck applied brakes but the brakes failed.
A taxi crossed over the robot intersection from east to west turning
into Isipingo and collided with the truck.
Upon impact, the taxi burst into flames resulting in eleven people being
burnt beyond recognition inside the taxi. Five other people were rescued
from the taxi.
The names of the deceased are as follows:

- Sizakele Mbhele (55)
- Tholani Mbili (56)
- Gugile Khuzwayo (49)
- Immelda Ngcobo (33)
- Siphesihle Gcaba (31)
- Muzikayise Dlamini (30)
- Philisiwe Sabelo (27)
- Diana Hadebe (56)
- Slindile Lembede (30)
- Ayanda Ngidi (18)
"The safety of our people is one of the key priorities of our people.
I therefore want to repeat myself to all drivers to comply with all the
road rules or face the full might of the law," Cele said.
