MEC CELE WILL OFFICIATE THE OPENING OF THE BALLITO
LICENSING AUTHORITY
Thursday 10 August 2006, Brae-side in Ballito at 10 am
KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr.
Bheki Cele will officiate the opening of Ballito Licensing Authority on
Thursday 10 August 2006 at Braeside in Ballito at 10 am.
This initiative comes after a call from the desperate community of
Ballito and surroundings who travel long distances to nearby towns and
cities for vehicle registration and licensing. A proposal for the new
offices was forwarded to the MEC at the 2004 Summer Holiday Launch in
Stanger. A principle decision was made that the offices will be
constructed and completed by the end of June 2006.
The vehicle population for KwaDukuza is 29 527. The Department further
carries all the costs pertaining to the system (NaTIS) which for this
financial year is in the region of R16 million for the entire KZN.
A proposal has been forwarded to the Municipality to consider offering
a driving license renewal service at the Ballito offices this being a
further plus for the community (and the Municipality). Legislation will
soon (September 2006) force members of the public to renew their driving
licenses in the area where they reside and this will assist the public in
not having to travel long distances to renew their driving
licenses, it will further encourage members of the public to reflect their
correct residential addresses.
MEC CELE CELEBRATES WOMEN’S DAY WITH WOMEN FROM CLEANING SERVICES
Friday 11 August 2006, Ushaka Marine World at 10 am
MEC Cele will celebrate Women’s Day with women from the cleaning
services of the Department of Transport with the aim of recognizing their
invaluable role in the department regardless of rank or nature of the job.
MEC Cele upholds the ideals of defending the weak and the significance
of spending the day with women largely from previously
disadvantaged backgrounds in the quest to bring hope and courage to
women at all levels as we celebrate Women’s month 2006.
