launched by the MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr.
Bheki Cele last week Thursday 16/03/06 during the Bus Indaba in
Pietermaritzburg.
Operation Thath’iskorokoro will target all bus depots and bus ranks in
Empangeni and surroundings. It will also conduct a full force operation
at Masithembe Bus Service outside Mtubatuba, a company that is owned by
NADECO President Ziba Jiyane.
The operation is aimed at reducing road accidents in the province. MEC
Cele made an announcement of the operation at the memorial service of 14
bus accident victims at High flats Ixopo. The operation will form part

Easter holidays. “After a thorough technical check-up, buses will
receive certificate of roadworthiness and we will issue those
certificates to all churches and congregations prior to the Easter
Weekend” Cele said.
In the last few days the Shanela Team has conducted a full force
operation in Durban, Pietermaritzburg and surrounding areas. “We have
discovered that every second bus in the province is unroadworthy which
is shocking and unacceptable, the operation will reach every corner of
the province and we will shanela to the limit” Cele added.
