MEC CELE EXPRESSES SHOCK OVER BUS BLAZE IN UMLAZI
KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr.Bheki
Cele have expressed shock and great sadness over the report of 59 buses
that were set alight at Umlazi in the early hours of the morning (Sunday
23/04/06).
Preliminary reports have revealed that the fire started at about 3am
this morning in two buses, the fire continued until it destroyed 59
buses of Remant Alton Bus Company. This morning MEC Cele had discussions
with the management and the police. The motive is not known at this
stage however most people are viewing it as an accident as opposed to
deliberate act. “This afternoon we will convene a meeting with Remant
Alton and the police investigation unit in order to structure a way
forward in dealing with the matter accordingly” Cele said.
“I would like to apologise to our commuters for the delay and
inconvenience that will be caused by the shortage of buses particularly
to workers and scholars as the week commences tomorrow, however
alternative transport arrangements will be made soon” said Cele.
