PINETOWN ROAD TRAFFIC INSPECTORATE OFFICES ROBBED

The KwaZulu- Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr Bheki Cele has condemned the robbery of the Pinetown RTI office.

Six armed men robbed the RTI Pinetown licensing offices this morning at about 07h35. They took an undisclosed amount of cash. As the suspects ran towards two getway cars, a shootout ensued between them and RTI officers. One RTI officer, Mr. Dwayne Scott, was wounded -he is in a stable condition at St Augustine Hospital. One suspect was killed, while the remaining five suspects are still at large. The stolen money has since been recovered by police.

MEC Bheki Cele said "We view this attack as a serious criminal offence. No effort will be spared in tracking down these criminals." Cele also said "It is disturbing that this incident happened while we are celebrating the most important day for law enforcers -- Police Day." Meanwhile Cele will visit RTI Officer Scott in hospital.

A case of armed robbery and attempted murder has been open.
