MEC CELE WILL JOIN A BUS CAMPAIGN TO STOP VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

Thursday 30 March 2006, Warwick Triangle- Durban at 9am

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr Bheki Cele will attend a campaign to stop violence against women. This is a national campaign that seeks to address all issues relating to the well being of women. The campaign will begin with a convoy for Awareness Drive through the CBD.

The convoy will start at Durban Christian Centre ( West Street) with all other participating partners and will arrive at the Warwick Triangle at 10h30 am for the endorsement of the bus campaign.

Amongst other things the purpose of the gathering is to mobilise the communities to support the campaign against women abuse even beyond the “16 Days of Activism”.

Cele will address members of the public and representatives from Non Governmental Organisations (NGO’s) on issues relating to the promotion of women in holding the state accountable by assisting women to call on the government to improve implementation of the Domestic Violence Act, as well as bring into effect the Sexual Offences Bill which was first mooted in 1998.
