MEC CELE FIRMLY STANDS BY HIS POSITION OF DEFENDING THE WEAK IN TOLL
ROAD DEBATE
KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr. Bheki
Cele maintains his firm position on the statement he made in parliament with
regards to the issue of adding more toll roads in the KwaZulu-Natal province.
Responding to the reports made by SANRAL Regional Manager Stewart Wilson, Cele
reiterated his statement by acknowledging the fact that even if legislation
exists it does not mean that the views of the people should be ignored.
“The residents of Amanzimtoti, Isipingo and nearby areas have raised serious
concerns regarding the issue of toll roads, and as government we respect the
views of the communities that we serve. Therefore I strongly maintain my
position of defending the weak and in serving our people for a better life for
all” Cele said.
“The John Ross highway in Empangeni north of KZN, is a typical example of the
functioning of a democratic government that listens and responds to the views of
the people as part of their constitutional right and as government we respect
that” Cele concluded.
