Stop At The Kerb/Verg of the Road (2)

This exercise must be repeated until stopping at the kerb or the road verge becomes a habit.
Location

Use the school premises or a quiet road near the school to do this exercise

Method
  • Draw a line with a chalk or place a stick 15cm away from the kerb on the pavement while the child is watching. Tell the child "this is where you must STOP".
  • Where there is no kerb, draw a line with a chalk or place a stick 15cm away from the verge of the road.
  • Take the child by the hand, walk up to the line or stick and stop. At the same time call out the word "STOP". The child must put up his/her hand in the "Stop" position.
  • Repeat the exercise a few times and then ask the child to demonstrate it on his/her own.
