Crossing At A Stop Street (6)

Before attempting this exercise, ensure that the child knows the meaning of the Stop sign.
Location

Armed with a Stop sign, use the school premises or a quiet road near the school.

Method
  • Explain the purpose of the Stop sign.
  • Take the child’s hand and stand a little way back from the edge. Wait for vehicles to stop.
  • Look right, left and right again when all vehicles have stopped. Take the child’s hand and walk across the road while telling the child to continue to LOOK and LISTEN for traffic.
  • Also demonstrate and explain the importance of looking over the shoulder for oncoming vehicles while crossing.
