Crossing Where There Is A Scholar Patrol (8)

The teacher must stress that children must obey the instructions of
scholar patrol members, especially the leader.
Location
Make use of a scholar patrol crossing at a school.
Method
- Set up the scholar patrol.
- Show children the layout of the scholar patrol.
- Pupils must line up quietly behind the "closed" Stop
sign pole.
- The teacher explains the purpose of the poles and outlines the
procedure.
- Pupils are then told to obey the commands and signals of the
scholar patrol leader.
- Pupils cross only when the poles are "open", looking
right, left and right again while crossing briskly, and in a
straight line, so that they reach the other side as quickly as
possible. Should the scholar patrol crossing be closed to allow
traffic to flow, pupils must wait until it opens again. It must be
stressed that they should not become impatient and make the crossing
on their own.
