Getting Caught in the Drink Trap

The Consequences
  • You will be taken to a police station. It could be in one of the most violent areas in the country
  • Your alcohol /blood level will be tested. If it shows that you’re over the legal limit of 0.05, you will be charged and held in a cell. You will find it’s hardly a nice place to be in, especially over a weekend. The people with whom you share the cell may be gang members, murderers or rapists. Rich or poor, the police won’t give you special treatment - but your cellmates might
  • You will be held in the cell until you appear in court on the next working day. Therefore, if you are caught in a drink trap on a Friday, you will spend two days in a cell
  • The date for a hearing and bail amount will be set. You may find it more difficult than you think to find a friend or relative willing to come up with the bail money
  • You may have to wait up to four months or longer for judgment
  • If found guilty, the penalties are severe. You could lose your licence, be fined heavily or even sentenced to prison for up to six years
  • You could lose your job. And, of course, your family may have to pay a heavy price for what you considered a good time
  • Your name could also be published in newspapers with details of your offence and penalties. How humiliating!

Now ask yourself: Is it worth taking the risk?
