‘You have a right to refuse to be ill-treated by public transport drivers
– Mpimpa!’
KZN Transport MEC, Mr S’bu Ndebele, has appealed to commuters and community
members in general to mpimpa those who break the law, including the notorious
chicken game that killed over ten school children.
"Good people I wish to say that there is no where in the world where you
would go and find that there is a traffic officer on every corner of the road.
"This is your life, and you only have one life. One death is one too
many. We must refuse to be treated like articles in our taxis. We refused to be
brutalised by the apartheid government. We don’t say face the taxi driver, no.
"Report him to the taxi associations and taxi councils, report him to
the Department of Transport – the Mpimpa line is open for you: 0862211010.

"Taxi drivers have driver licenses as well as drivers’ permits. We do
not hesitate tearing apart the driver permit when someone who is supposed to be
responsible for the safety of commuters is abusing his work. We leave him with
the drivers’ license alone. So Mpimpa – when you have done that, leave him
with us, we will deal with him," added Mr Ndebele.
