Road condition not responsible for recent incidents of carnage on the road
Drivers and their company owners are primarily to blame for
the incidents of carnage on KZN roads which took place recently.
Provincial transport minister S’bu Ndebele has pointed out
that drivers did not speed on gravel roads and that the buses that killed people
recently were in fact travelling on tarred roads.
"All the accidents that we have had recently from Paul
Petersburg, Chatsworth and Sweetwaters happened on tarred roads," he said.
Road accidents are mainly caused by vehicle or driver error,
and it is not uncommon to have bad road users such as drunken pedestrians. It
has become common practice for local and provincial governments to put speed
humps on tarred roads to discourage drivers from excessive speed on good roads.
