KZN Roadside court a workable model in our country

Alufakwa! At the Roadside Court

A roadside court magistrate, Mr Lineus Phoswa, has called upon the Department of Transport in the province to consider the possibility of extending the life-span of the roadside courts to long week-ends and certain month-ends

Citing the unquestionable success of the roadside court, Mr Phoswa said he recognized that financial constraint may make it difficult for the Department to extend the operational period of roadside courts beyond the December holidays when vehicle count reaches ten thousand vehicles per hour in KwaZulu-Natal.

Mr Prowse noted that whereas in the beginning motorists were aggressive and against roadside courts, a new realization had dawned as they were now appreciative of the primary goal of the roadside court, that is, to save this "irreplaceable precious gift called human life.’’

Referring to Minister Ndebele as a bold and visionary optimist who pioneers multi-pronged road safety campaigns in the country, Mr Phoswa said it was in the interest of safety on our roads that other provinces should follow in the footsteps of Ndebele’s Department which has used its constitutional right to launch roadside courts.
